Weapon
When a weapon is upgraded, it will gain an initial damage bonus as well as a scaling factor that influences other stats. Certain upgrade components have aesthetic effects while others give additional attributes. These upgrades can be slotted into armor, weapons trinkets, and gathering tools, and they generally require the equipment to have an upgrade slot available and meet certain specifications. The upgrade component can be removed from a weapon, armor or trinket, but it is not replaced. (Except for legendary equipment). Upgrade components can be recovered by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit Ascended Salvage tool, or a high-tier salvaging tool for an item.

Once the weapon has reached the maximum level of upgrade, it may be rebuilt using a variety of different types of upgrades to increase specific stats or to add bonuses and effects. A variety of these upgrades can be used simultaneously, and the effects differ based on the rarity of the weapon.
